The school in Cameroon

Busuu will provide all donations to CAPEC, an organisation we have been proud to work with for several years.

Through their school in central Cameroon, CAPEC help provide an education for children who come from low-income families in the local area.

Many of the parents are illiterate and these pupils are often the first generation in their families to be getting an education.

A Big Thank You from Cameroon

As you can see from the images, there’s a brand new classroom at the CAPEC school in Cameroon. And we’re very proud to say it was the busuu community that made it possible. Last December, every busuu-berry earned increased the amount that we donated to the charity. And we did a great job in raising the maximum amount possible, allowing us to donate enough for a whole classroom at the school.

Nkolfoulou Village School

The school is located in Central Cameroon, in a remote farming village called Nkolfoulou, and provides education to children from families who are unable to afford to send their kids to schools further away from the family home. The kids love the school and get a huge amount of benefit from the education that the teachers provide there. It’s fantastic that this extra classroom will provide space and materials for an extra 40 children to attend the school each day.

A message from the school

The teachers and organisers of CAPEC, the charity that run the school, wanted us to thank all the people who contributed to the project and say how pleased they were with the new classroom. They stressed again how important it is for these young people to have an education that will help keep them safe and happy during their childhood.

So thanks again to all busuu users for your effort. You can pat yourselves on the back!

Cameroon Project Update

We just got some really exciting news from the Cameroon Association for the Protection and Education of the Child and wanted to share it with you all. In December, all the berries you earned on busuu contributed to us donating money to build a classroom in Central Cameroon, and now we have pictures of the early stages of that process!

Building Materials

In Cameroon, classrooms are often built using large planks of wood. As you can see from the picture, these have recently been purchased and are in the process of being prepared by a carpenter, ready to be made into the classroom. Over the next few months the classroom will take shape and will be filled with all the furniture and equipment that the local children need for their education.

Keep up to date

Visit our Facebook and Google+ to see more photos. Also we’ll be posting regular updates on our blog so make sure you check in to see how the school is coming along.

Thanks again for all your hard work during the campaign. It’s your learning that made this donation possible.

Thank you for helping education in Cameroon!

A huge thank you to all of you who helped us reach our target of 50 million busuu-berries in the Learn2Help campaign this month. Thanks to all your hard work, busuu will provide the Cameroon Association for the Protection and Education of the Child (CAPEC) with enough money to build a classroom at their school in Central Cameroon.

Expanding the school

You can be very proud of all your learning this month as every berry helped busuu provide enough money to build a whole classroom for the CAPEC school for low-income families in Central Cameroon. The classroom will be built in the new year and will provide enough space for up to 40 children to learn at the school. The money donated will also provide all the classroom furniture that the pupils need.

Continuing CAPEC’s great work

CAPEC do great work helping to educate and protect young people in an area of Cameroon where literacy rates are low and many families are unable to afford to send their children to school. Here at busuu we are proud of our relationship with this amazing charity and proud of our users for helping us donate so much to such a good cause this month.

Keep up the motivation

And remember that you benefited from your hard work too, with every busuu-berry demonstrating that you’re learning a language with busuu. So keep up the good work and look out for some exciting tips and tools to keep you motivated into 2014!
