We all know that one of the most important factors in successfully learning a new language is to Set a study goal and to track it over time! That’s why we have worked with the prestigious research institute to develop:

MyBusuu – your personal study guide!

With MyBusuu you can:

  • set your own study goal for each language and level
  • decide on your learning intensity and see immediately on which date you should achieve your learning goal
  • communicate your study goal to your friends on facebook and twitter
  • see in your language area whether you are on track with your pre-set goal
  • follow your progress as a percentage of your personal goal
  • check out the number of vocabularies you have already successfully studied
  • receive a detailed, individual report on your study progress every two weeks

Once you have successfully reached your study goal on time, you will be rewarded with the MyBusuu badge and get additional 200 juice busuu berries busuu-berrie

We have also improved how the tests within your course structure work! You will now be asked directly about each of your previous mistakes in the tests within each unit. By doing so, our intelligent learning system adapts completely to your individual study progress.

We have also added a final test, which will cover all the units at each level. You have to pass this test before you can receive your level badge and get your course certificate!

As you can see, these changes will be very useful in helping you to reach your study goals! MyBusuu is only available for Premium Users, so take advantage of our Happy New Year promotion and upgrade now to a Premium account!

We wish you all the best for your language learning in 2011!

busuu.com gets a new home

As our little baby busuu.com is growing quickly, we moved last week to our new shiny offices right next to the beautiful Retiro Park in the heart of Madrid!

Of course we inaugurated our new premises with an office warming party with all our friends and the whole busuu.com team!

We all had a great time and are sure that this new home will give us lots of inspiration for further development of our language learning platform! :-)

The language Busuu

Did you know where the name of our website busuu.com comes from?

Busuu is actually a language from Cameroon in Africa, spoken by only 8 people!

It was first “discovered” by the French professor of linguistics Roland Breton in the year 1986. According to his and more recent research, the language, with the ISO 639 identifier “bju“, belongs to the Niger-Congo language family or in detail, the so called unclassified Southern Bantoid language family.

The UNESCO included the language Busuu within their highly interesting Interactive Atlas of the World’s Languages in Danger. There, the language is classified as “critically endangered“. Below you can see exactly the area, where the language is supposed to be spoken by those 8 people. Just click on the picture and you can find out more about the region which is close to the border between Nigeria and Cameroon.

Who are those 8 people that still speak Busuu? How do they look like? Do they know about busuu.com? ;-) Maybe one day, we will find out…

The UNESCO estimates that there are around 3,000 endangered languages world-wide. This is nearly half of the 6,500 languages spoken around the globe. Since 1950, already 230 languages extinct!

We from busuu.com hope that we can also contribute to preserve some of those endangered languages. Do you remember our campaign to rescue the Silbo Gomero, the nearly extinct whistled language from the Gomera Islands in Spain?

Shortly after the launch of our video, for which we received a Silver Lion in the International Marketing Festival in Cannes, the Silbo Gomero was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity!

We are absolutely convinced that if busuu.com can be used to learn “large languages” such as English or Spanish, our platform could also serve to preserve endangered languages.

So maybe one day, we will make our contribution that you can learn Busuu on busuu.com! :-)
